@Chlorophyll got a good point there, if you do have 2 ice creams for $5 each you can say 5+5 or 5x2, right? 3 ice creams will cost 5+5+5 or 5x3 4 ice creams will cost 5+5+5+5, which is the same thing as 5x4 100 ice creams will cost 5+5+5+5+.... (till you reach 100) = 5x100 What it the number that is changing when I'm writing it in the multiplication form? Not the 5, but the 2, 3, 4, 100, etc.... right? So you can represent the number of ice creams you buy with a variable, because it is always changing! Let's call that variable x, so the ice cream cost can be represented by 5x. Where x=the # of ice creams you buy. But now, instead of buying ice cream, we're renting a tent. A tent costs $0.50 for each night, so how can you represent how much you will spend if you rent it for x nights?
