A certain 5-pound bag of flour costs $1.75. What is the cost in cents per ounce? I need to know how to work this out..im so lost. and ppl r so rude. thanks

OpenStudy (istim):

I think you divide the money by the weight.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah I know that. lol

OpenStudy (agent47):

сначала посчитай сколько стоит один фунт муки в долларах. Потом подсчитай сколько это будет в центах.

OpenStudy (agent47):

потом ответ подели на 16 и все.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have no idead what that says@Agent47

OpenStudy (agent47):

Then you should stop misleading people and telling them that you're russian *facepalm*...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dude, I was born in russia...i kinda forgot the lanugage at 6years. so please if ur gna be rude. go away.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

do you know how many cents there are in $1.75?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope im trying to convert but its confusing me . 25pounds = 1 quarter; 4 quarters=1 hunderweight.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hint: in $1.00 there are 100 cents...does that give you any hints?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To compute cents per ounce you divide the total number of cents by the total number of ounces. So first figure out how many cents are in $1.75, then figure out how many ounces are in 5 pounds. Then divide.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

175cents?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

right

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

now divide that by 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ktklown that's what im trying to get there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lgbasallote 5?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

divide 175 by 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK how many ounces are in 1 pound?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16oz=1lb

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right 16oz = 1lb, so how many ounces are in 5 pounds?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

80

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right 5 pounds is 80 oz. So 175 cents / 80 oz is what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2.1875

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right 2.1875 cents / oz. that's the answer you want

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so there is no oz just 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh nvm lol
