do humans have innate, inborn behaviors?

OpenStudy (blues):

Yes - simple ones. As an example, I point to infants innate, inborn instinct to suckle when presented with the opportunity. Or their innate, inborn instinct to cry when needy of attention.

THANK YOU :) exactly what I thought. We also are all unique individuals that have that innate, inborn behavior to better ourselves.

OpenStudy (blues):

Of course the question with respect to humans is to what extent innate, inborn instincts control the behavior of older people. As opposed to social influences or how we are 'taught' to behave. I think the most accurate answer would be that different adults are affected to different extents by innate, inborn instincts. Some "instincts" have an understood biochemical basis - but you would have to be very careful about how you defined "instinct." Much of the research done on mental illness shows an innate genetic basis for some people but not others, and I suspect that "instinct" has a similar distribution in a population. But I am a molecular biologist and though fascinating, behavioral science is not an area of biology about which I am able to talk with much authority. :)
