OpenStudy (alfinbaid):

WHY PROTEIN IS NOT NORMALLY FOUND IN URINE?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Urine is formed by the filtration of blood. Proteins, being very large molecules, are not filtered and remain in the blood. Proteins in the blood also have important roles in the body: pH regulation, binding of drugs and hormones, clotting, immune function, etc. It would not be beneficial for the body to lose these proteins in the urine, and then have to make new proteins. Also, proteins are very expensive metabolically to produce. Synthesis requires high usage of ATP, and some amino acids cannot be synthesized by the body, but need to be in the diet, also making them potentially hard to replace. Protein in the urine usually indicates some damage to the kidneys.
