2/5 divided by 1 2/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should start by changing the mixed numbers into improper fractions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So that would be 5/3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If I did the problem right it would be .24.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is supposed to be a fraction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh then yes 5/3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then I find the common denominator right? and divide from there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You don't need to do that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You know another way?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2/5)/(5/3) is the same thing as (2/5)*(3/5). All I did was flip the 2nd fraction and change the sign to multiplication. It's just one of those rules you can memorize.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you multiply (2/5)*(3/5), You get 6/25, because 2*3=6 and 5*5=25 (basic fraction multiplication

Ok got it! Thanks for your help guys!
