solve the inequality: x-3<-4 or x -1>5 please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the first one try adding 3. i.e \[x-3+3 < -4 +3\]

OpenStudy (amorfide):

x-3<-4 you want to get X on its own. to do this you eliminate anything other than x on the left side to do this you do the opposite to the number you have on the left side. you have -3 so you add 3 but anything you do on the left you must do to the right x-3+3<-4+3 the -3+3 cancel out and -4+3 gives -1 this gives x<-1

On the 2nd add 1 to both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

from the 1st x<-1 from the 2nd x>6 \[(-\infty,-1) \cup (6,\infty)\]
