When graphing a linear function where f(5)=-4 and f(-2)=17, my function notation is f(x)=-3x+11. How do I graph this?
you plot the 2 points that have been given and draw a line thru them
or, pick 2 other points that fit the function and draw a line thru those
well the answer in the book tells me that x is at 3 and y is at 11. Why isnt x at -3 ? Thats what I dont understand.
ur function is f(x) =-3x + 11 or y=-3x +11 and ur book is wrong or maybe ur reading it wrongly - - -the point (3,11) does not lie on this line of points
im not sure i understand what "x is at 3 and y is at 11" refers to. to plot the line, you need 2 points for reference; they gave you 2 points already: (5,-4) and (-2,17) if you do not wish to use those points, then plug in a value for "x" to solve the equation in terms of y to create other points of reference.
