This was a quesiton on my physics test today and i was hoping i could get a second opinion on my answer: A virtual image cannot be shown on a mirror and it cannot be photographed. True/False/Not enough Info
I said it was Not enough info. Because i know you can take a photograph of a virtual image because the lens turnes it into a real image. so couldn't you use lenses to make a real image appear on the screen?
Yes, but then you're talking about a real image, right?
If the lens converts it into a real image to be photographed, we aren't talking about a virtual image anymore. However, if we project the virtual image onto a mirror, we will be able to see it. The answer should be False.
I think I'm having a little difficulty with the wording of the question, what does it mean to show an image on a mirror?
SORRY! i actrually typed it wrong. ..and it CAN be photographed
ughhh sorry i messed it up bad it should say "a virtural image can not be shown on a screen and it can be photographed"
In that case the answer to the question is that statement is true.
Under closer inspection, I have to agree with Jemurray3. The wording is tricky. Indeed, we can photograph a virtual image. Take one's picture in a mirror for example. However, the image used to make the photograph (the image that focused on the film) will be real.
what if it said that "it can not be shown on a screen and can not be photographed"?
To clarify what we mean, think of it this way....if you can see it, it can be photographed, because the lenses in a camera perform the same function as our eyes. These lenses (and our eyes) focus the light rays at a point on a photographic plate (or our retinas) producing the photograph (image which is then interpreted by our brain). So, in the context of cameras or eyes, it is possible to see the virtual image because the lenses focus the light rays together.
That would be false. Virtual images cannot be shown on a screen, but they can be photographed.
eh that is lame. i figured because it would be part true and part false then it would be not enough info.
haha if it's part true and part false, it's all false.
alright idk i guess i just overthought it
