is 2 (a + b) = 2a + 2b an associative law?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, it is the distributive property

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have no idea. i don't understand this at all.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, sorry, he is right, thats distributive because you can take the 2 and distribute to the numbers inside the parentesis, associative is like that: (a+b)+c=a+(b+c)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The 2 is being distributed (shared) with the a and b. There is no change in association (grouping).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooooooh ok! thanks!
