What are prime numbers and what are prime factors?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i forgot and havent done it in a long time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

prime numbers are numbers that only have themselves as one as factors. like 7 can only be made from 1 times 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

prime factors, I presume you mean number factors, but they are the the factors of a number where all factor are prime. All numbers can be broken into prime factors see darwing

my homework sheet is called prime factors of numbers. so for 9 would it be 1 3 and 9? or am i missing something?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, 9 would be 3 and 3 because 3 and 3 are prime and 1 is not prime

OpenStudy (anonymous):

some people would say 3 squared is the prime factors of 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused cuz for the examples 1 - 8 all have 1 as a "prime factor"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill attach a file in a while cuz i suck with transfering files and stuff

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh well some people say 1 is primes others say it is not so if its says 1 is prime go with that then 9 s prime factors would be 1 times 3 times 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, but im still a little confused but ill figure it out on my own in a while

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its supposed to be factors now that i checked the examples again

OpenStudy (anonymous):
