Order of operation: 7+4x2=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Order of operations goes as follows P(parathesis) E(Exponential) M(Multiplication) D(Division) A(Addition) S(Subtraction) where M and D are interchangeable and A and S are interchangeable It is 15.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So like for example: 4/2x7= would we do the division first because its interchangeable

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Yeah, you could do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Generally speaking, that doesn't occur because that causes confusion. if that were the case, a Parathesis would have to be imbedded into the question to determine what answer you wanted. So, you would do what is within the parathesis first. (4/2) x 7 is different then 4/(2 x 7)
