Does OpenStudy save or store IP's in the system for banning purposes?

This is usually how bans work. Your ip is kept with you info, (email, pass, username). When they ban you from the site, they ban your IP, so we you try to join, the server will notice your blacklisted IP, therefore kick you out.

Well, OpenStudy's IP is 23.21.188.156, and is in the U.K which is in the EU. A new law passed making storing IP's even for banning purposes illegal. This law is not optional and applies to all of EU.

IP addresses are considered private information apparently. Do you think the creators will deal with this problem?

I'm not sure where you got the information that anything about the OpenStudy IP address is in the UK, but you are mistaken. Every aspect of that IP, as far as we are aware, is allocated to Amazon's EC2 IP block in northern Virginia in the USA.

I was under the impression that the servers were in the U.K, well it appears OpenStudy is safe if they store IP's in the system. My mistake, Shadowfiend, you have an IP blocker which redirects searches for it. I was unaware.

Yeah that's extra weird. I tried about 10 different ip locator services and they all correctly put us in the US. And the DNS registrar info is in the US, too. < shrug >

They can't get you're ip if you are on a VPN.
