The Goblin Market has a lot of themes, one of which is definitely the fallen woman. Both the Rosetti siblings were concerned about this topic since her brother, Gabriel Rosetti did several PreRafaelite paintings on the subject matter. Anyways, in the beginning of the poem, the goblin men are trying to sell fruit. Think of this as "forbidden fruit". When women eat the forbidden fruit, they become sick and unwanted. Think of the story of the woman in the middle of the poem who was going to get married and then didn't (I think she may have died instead). Also, when the more cautious sister goes to get fruit for her sister when she is sick, the scene in which the Goblin men try to force her to eat the fruit and smash them up to the juices run over her face is symbolic of a rape scene Anyways, at the end, the sister who ate the fruit was saved by a woman and the tale acts as a story of warning against impurity. Another very prevalent theme in the poem is addiction. If you see the reaction her sister had to eating the fruit - wanting more, not being able to sleep, shivering, getting sick - these all point to signs of withdrawal. She had to detox to become well again through the help of her sister. These are just two of the many themes. Hope that helped.
