OpenStudy (anonymous):

can someone help me create a factorable trinomial that can be factored into 2 binomials

hartnn (hartnn):

yes.

hartnn (hartnn):

lets take an example. x^2+ 12x+ 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x^{2} +6x +8 \] factored to (x+4)(x+2) because 4 and 2 times to 8 and adds to 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Start with the binomials first then multiply.

hartnn (hartnn):

tell me what are two numbers whose product is 20 and sum is 12 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 and 5

hartnn (hartnn):

nopes, sum is not 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sum unm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is not other number that gives u 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as a product

hartnn (hartnn):

ok, how about 10 and 2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5

hartnn (hartnn):

5 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Probably best to review FOILing here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

hartnn (hartnn):

@Nana3456 i asked u 2 numbers whose sum is 12 and product is 20. are 10 and 2 those numbers ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you see my answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the task is to create a trinomial, then start with two binomials, (x+a)(x+b) and multiply them by FOILing (First Outer Inner Last). You can pick whatever you want for a and b - no guess work required.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I saw it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

guys I am very greatful to all of you but I can not understand if everuony is talking to me at the same time :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um meabe am not sure @hartnn

hartnn (hartnn):

ok, lets take an easier example. x^2+4x+4 give me 2 numbers whose product = 4 and sum = 4 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TAKEBACKMATH said that x2+6x+8 factored to (x+4)(x+2) because 4 and 2 times to 8 and adds to 6 so this can be factorable trinomial and factored into two binomals?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes. he directly gave u the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mm and how can I put this on a decending order?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you @TAKEBACKMATH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how can I put this on a decending order?

hartnn (hartnn):

putting factors in descending order ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the trinomal
