okay so if n=(-1) what is 3n^2 would it be 3 x (-1)^2, as in the -1 is square or is it 3 x (-1) and then square that???

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it would be 3n^2 3(-1)^2 ... Replace n with -1 3(1) 3 So 3n^2 = 3 when n = -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no you must do first brackets

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So you first square -1 to get positive 1 Then you multiply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so u just square the -1? right?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

the exponent only applies to the ones IN the parenthesis...always...

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

so yes..just square -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thats what i thought

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lgbasalolte is right

thank you
