A classmate tells you, “Finding the coordinates of a midpoint is easy. You just find the averages.” Is there any truth to it? Explain what you think your classmate means

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i would say...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

that must have been me :) yes the midpoint formula is same as finding average of 2 numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

basically we have 2 points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) lets start by looking at the x coordinates x1 and x2. the midpoint between those two is the equivalent of finding the average (x1+x2)/2= x mid point now we look at the y coordinates well same as what we did for the x coordinate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I get it. So (y1 + y2)/2 = y mid point Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the midpoint between the 2 points is (x_mid, y_mid) no prob
