Does anyone know how this method of factoring quadratics is called? x^2 + bx + c Two factors are (x+u) && (x+v) <=> u*v = c && u+v = b

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

wouldn't that be simple factoring?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

what kind of answer are you looking for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Does anyone know how this method of factoring quadratics is called?" So I'm looking for the name of this method

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

OpenStudy (agent47):

this was called Heron's method. I think. Not sure but if I remember correctly, he was the one who came up with this..

OpenStudy (agent47):

nvm this is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Heron's method has something to do with triangles I think

OpenStudy (agent47):

Yea, that formula sqrt(p(p-a)(p-b)(p-c))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the one I can never remember :p

OpenStudy (agent47):

Vieta's theorem

OpenStudy (agent47):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vieta's_formulas That's what we used to call that method in 5th grade. I just remembered
