f(x)=-x^2+2x+5 Having trouble finding the x-intercept.

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

to find the x-intercepts solve the equation \[ \large -x^2+2x+5=0 \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can I get rid of that negative sign?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well the problem is that the quadratic can't be factorised. You'll need the general quadratic formula or to complete the square for the x- intercepts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was using complete the square but the negative sign in front of the x^2 confused me

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

then multiply by (-1) the equation

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

rewrite the equation x^2 - 2x = 5 now complete the square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thanks will try again with this knowledge

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

hope it helps
