derivative of x^8 +1 / x^7 using the quotient rule?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got (x^7)(8x^7) -(x^8) (7x^6) divide that all by (x^7)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry forgot to mention that it was divided by (x^7)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x^8 +1) / (x^7)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the equation...i got the square by using the quotient rule

OpenStudy (radar):

Note that problem is requesting the use of the quotient rule.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the final answer i got was (x^14 -7x^6) /(x^7)^2 but it said I was wrong..not sure where my mistake is????

OpenStudy (radar):

@rms49, There is an error in the 2nd term of your first post. It should be -(x^8 + 1) 7x^6. You omitted the "+1'' You are on the right track.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i need to distribute the negative to the 7x^6 too???
