FIND THE LIMIT IF IT EXISTS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

infinty

OpenStudy (curry):

\[\lim_{X \rightarrow 0} (1/(X^2))\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

infty

OpenStudy (curry):

IT SAYS NO LIMIT EXISTS BUT I THOUGHT X = 0 WAS AN ASYMPTOTE SO THEREFORE IT EQUALS INFINITY

OpenStudy (curry):

HOW COME? MY BOOK SAYS NO LIMIT EXISTS BUT IN THE GRAPH AS X GETS CLOSER TO 0 THE LIMIT IS INFINITY?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a limit is a number.... infinity is not a number so there is no limit to the problem.

OpenStudy (curry):

but cant u say as x is getting colser to infinity

OpenStudy (curry):

the y value is getting to inifinity like for a parabola

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as x gets closer to zero, 1/x^2 gets closer to +infinty.... yes, you can say that.... and that's why the 1/x^2 does not have a limit as x japproaches zero.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

infinity is not a number to say closer or farer, infinity is a state where the limit reaches nowhere and cannot be determined... u can say its undetermined rather than infinity
