The figure below shows two similar pictures that Gina wants to frame. Gina has 2 strips of unfinished molding that she wants to use to frame the two pictures. Each strip is 36 inches long. Assuming there is no wastage or overlap of molding, what is the minimum length of molding Gina still requires to frame both the pictures? Show your work and explain your reasoning in complete sentences.
first we have to find the missing length of the bigger picture. since we know that they're similar, we can find a ratio using the other sides. 32.5/13 = 2.5 2.5 x 15 = 37.5 so the missing length is 37.5. we can now start finding the perimeters of both pictures. (37.5 x 2) + (32.5 x 2) = 65 + 75 = 140 the other picture: (13 x 2) + (15 x 2) = 26 + 30 = 56 add those together: 56 + 140 = 196 so we need 196 inches of molding. let's see how much she already has. 2 strips of 36 inches. 36 x 2 = 72 she only has 72 inches, so we need to find how much she needs after she uses them up. subtract 72 from 196 to get your answer: 196 - 72 = 124 gina would still need 124 more inches of molding
do you understand how i got the answer?
yes, i think so! @AriPotta can you help me with one more thing? real quick?
sure, if i can
can you tell me if this is translational, reflectional, rotational, or glide rotational symmetry?
could it be more than one thing?
i think so
one sec, i gotta put socks on, i'm freezing
ok, well i'm positive that it's glide, but it could also be more than just that
haha, i thought so too. thank you! i think i'll ask this as a separate question just to be sure
well actually...i think it might be all of them except rotational
ok, that sounds like a good idea lol. sorry
haha it's okay.
