mathslover (mathslover):

Which sentence will be preferred as correct and why? a) while reading you can face problems b) You can face problems while reading.

mathslover (mathslover):

@chris @callisto @ParthKohli

Parth (parthkohli):

For the record, articles are "a," "an" and "the".

Parth (parthkohli):

Wait, now I see "problems". I thought it was "problem".

mathslover (mathslover):

What about these sentences? a) You should consult dictionary for difficult words. b) For difficult words you should consult dictionary

mathslover (mathslover):

yep ... I corrected that, sorry! well does that make any difference?

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes, it does :)

mathslover (mathslover):

How? Why?

Parth (parthkohli):

All of the following are correct: 1) You can face problems while reading. 2) You can face a problem while reading. 3) You can face the problem while reading.(If we have been talking about a specific problem)

mathslover (mathslover):

While reading you can face problems.

Parth (parthkohli):

But, "You can face problem while reading" is NOT correct. You should attach "a" or "the" before the word "problem".

Parth (parthkohli):

"While reading you can face problems" is not correct either, since you have to put a comma after 'reading'.

mathslover (mathslover):

:P sure?

Parth (parthkohli):

For sure!

mathslover (mathslover):

ok now what about next one?

Parth (parthkohli):

a) You should consult dictionary for difficult words. b) For difficult words you should consult dictionary None of them, because we never write "dictionary" all alone! The following is the correction of both sentences: a) You should consult the dictionary for difficult words. b) For difficult words, you should consult the dictionary.

mathslover (mathslover):

Ok same thing comma?

mathslover (mathslover):

'a'

mathslover (mathslover):

a dictionary

Parth (parthkohli):

No, I also put a "the" before "dictionary". :)

Parth (parthkohli):

It doesn't matter a lot; use both interchangeably.

Parth (parthkohli):

Actually, I learnt that you should always put "the" before dictionary.

mathslover (mathslover):

OK but there were only 2 options

mathslover (mathslover):

..... first one?

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes.

mathslover (mathslover):

Ok Thanks

Parth (parthkohli):

Do remember that if they had put a comma, then I'd have opted for the second. :)

mathslover (mathslover):

ok

Parth (parthkohli):

For confirmation, in which topic did you get these questions from?

mathslover (mathslover):

Section-C Grammar Practice paper term -1, Jumbled words

OpenStudy (anonymous):

theses are all like confusing they are backward and front ward

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question has nothing to do with articles... it has to do with prepositional phrases. Do not start a sentence with "while" or "for"
