My favourite topic in math has always been geometry. But even in my math college studies next year, there won't be any geometry! Where can I learn more about geometry, other than the stuff you learn in highschool? What happens to geometry after highschool?
If you study mathematics at university then there will be plenty of classes in geometry. If you want to learn some now, have a look at some of the lectures on here: www.learnerstv.com/course.php?cat=Maths
actually, it's 90% all linear algebra / analysis / algebra
It sort of depends on what you want to call "geometry".... Linear algebra has a lot of associated geometry (amongst other things). Geometry as such has lost out in the curriculum, I'm afraid (bad news IMO)
How far through college are you? I'm sure there will be some hyperbolic geometry classes at some point for you?
Yaw, disappeared ages ago...
Next year is my first, but I already taken a look at the courses
Classical groups is another aspect of geometry (buried in the rest of group theory)
The problem is that "mathematicians" think of geometry (and Euclidean in particular) as a settled subject.
oh :(
So the new stuff is all Cartesian Geometry then?
Well, that's hardly new....
I guess that's true but I mean what you learn at college that relates to geometry
The amount and type you get varies somewhat according to the track you follow, pure versus applied, that sort of thing... You are best off to do independant study, Elrangen programme, classical groups, inversive geometry, projective geometry (after that it gets very abstract).
