When does a limit not exist?

hartnn (hartnn):

the limit does not exist when left hand limit does not equal to right hand limit., do u know how to find these limits ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well kind of but can you can me an example?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes, find limit x-> 0 of x/2 when x is 0-, x/2 is negative. when x is 0+, x/2 is positive. hence that limit does not exist.
