Hey I am new here can anyone tell me which courses will help me in learning basics of programming.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This course. It covers the principles of object oriented programming, and problem solving where the solution is a computer program. This course it great for teaching the basics. You'll learn assignment statements, arguments, data types, lists, tuples, and a few common algorithms. My personal favorite being the wandering drunk. Enjoy the ride.

There are tons of courses to teach you the basics of programming, it is for you to decide which one clicks you best . The following link will give you books and websites to look for python basis . If you enjoy watching videos , then CS 101 at udacity.com might be of great help . Also at coursera.org offers many courses but at the moment none are in progress . Here are the links Of coursera classes : https://www.coursera.org/course/programming1 https://www.coursera.org/course/interactivepython https://www.coursera.org/course/cs101 You can also start learning at http://www.codecademy.com/ Khanacademy has launced videos of cs course. http://www.khanacademy.org/cs All you now need in extraordinary amount of enthusiasm, will and hard work to learn to craft quality code.

Sorry I forgot to post the link for books and websites in my above reply. Here it is .. http://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide/NonProgrammers

Good Point @akulbansal, there are alot of resources to learn the basic concepts, Khan academy is great too because they make mobile apps. I own iphone and ipad apps in stats which is very helpful to becoming a better programmer. Not to mention if you are in the cult of mac the itunes store is also loaded with free course ware. Plus check out http://www.dreamincode.net/ a great community to improve coding in python and many languages. Bon journee

I would also like to suggest to learn concepts of an industry to give your programming grounding. For example, i work on healthcare programs so I learned medical concepts and terminology so I can make EHRs better. If you interested in business learn concepts about trading or supply chain. Then apply programming problem solving principles into that area. Remember the goal of programming is to create a program to solve a problem. Not just to code for the sake of coding. Granted if you code to improve coding you'll also help.

I always recommend Stanford's CS106A Programming Methodologies http://see.stanford.edu Click on the Courses button.
