how do you find the slope if only two points are given: x intercept = -1/2 and y intercept = 4 write an equation in point slope and slope intercept?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i get how to write the equation i just dont know how to get the slope ):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need only 2 points for a line and you have them. Slope = m = (y2-y1) / (x2-x1).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i only have two points, how would i plug it in that equation ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, identify what your points are. Hint: each point will have either a y or x value equal to zero, from the definition of an intercept. Then, just call one point P1 or 1 and the other P2 or 2. Take the corresponding x and y from P1 and that will be x1 and y1. Similar for the other point.

oh!! so it will be (-1/2, 0) and then (0,4)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, you're getting it.

OpenStudy (baldymcgee6):

yyep those are the two point!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG thank you !! im good from here :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good luck to you
