What does it mean for a number to be the "solution" to an equation? Give an example of a variable equation and its solution. Explain in complete sentences how you know that number is the solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its the answer to the equation. 1x+1=1 x=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is a 'false' equation. If you substitute it is 2=1. which is not 'true'.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yea kinda dropped the ball on that basic equation 1x+1=2 x=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and explain how you know that number is the solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the equation to be true it must equal 2 therefore the only option for x is one because any other number would make the equation false
