How is naming a line segment different from naming a line? helppp

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Say you have two points P and Q The line that passes through P and Q is written as \( \overleftrightarrow{PQ} \) The line segment that passes through P and Q is written as \( \overline{PQ} \)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh thankss

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

np

OpenStudy (paxpolaris):

in the segment P and Q HAVE to be the endpoints.... whereas in the line P and Q can be any two points oon the line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank youu c:

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good point, I should have said The line segment that connects P and Q is written as \( \overline{PQ} \)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do that symbol on top of them.. lol

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

on this site? to do that I'm using the equation editor or you can type \overline{PQ} and surround it with \ ( and \ ) ... delete the spaces to get this \( \overline{PQ} \)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

to write out \( \overleftrightarrow{PQ} \) on this site, you type \overleftrightarrow{PQ} and surround it in \ ( and \ ) ... delete the spaces
