first get all the numbers on one side, it's just like an equation. so the first thing you do is subtract 1 onto the other side
you'll have:
2x < 4
then divide both sides by 2 to get x by itself
x < 2

not quite. so you have 3x+5 < 6x-1, you want to get the numbers on one side, so you can either subtract 5 from both sides or add 1
OpenStudy (anonymous):
that gives me -6
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so you you have 3x < 6x-6 right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now get the variables on the other side without the number. so subtract 6x from both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):
no...3x-6x isn't 6x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
what's 3 -6
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-3

correct, so you have -3x < -6
OpenStudy (anonymous):
divide both sides by -3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it gives me 2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and remember to switch the signs because you're dividing by a negative number
