Why DNA is twist shape?
it is due to net interaction between components of DNA and the environment where it is placed. The usual double helix is depend on surrounding ion concentration temperature etc. eg.DNA in pure water (without any ion) will not be a double helix
There are multiple hydrogen bonds between the nitrogen bases (the rungs of the ladder) and the dna molecule twists around itself due to hydrophobic interactions to squeeze out water from its empty spaces.
I'd read up on protein structures to find out.
its becoze of the hydrogen bonds formed between the base pairs of the 2 strands of DNA.The antiparallel arrangement of the two strands is what causes the twist. Because the strands run in opposite directions, they pull the sides of the molecule in opposite directions, causing the whole thing to twist around itself.
A pair of DNA structure is X & Y.
well. it has many explanation but i think DNA needs to pair corresponding bases and to give strength the backbone structure there. but its not necessary that hydrogen bonding only occurs in twisted shape.
