A number cube with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 is rolled 1000 times. About how many times would it be expected that a number greater than 4 is rolled?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what outcomes qualify as greater than 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would be rolls of 5 or 6, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then the ones that qualify are 5 and 6, and the ones that don't are 1, 2, 3, and 4 so 1/3 of the outcomes work, and 2/3 don't

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because 2 out of 6 is equivalent to 1/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so out of 1000 rolls, you would expect 1/3 of them to be either 5 or 6, and the other 2/3 of the rolls would be 1,2,3, or 4

making sense so far?
