whts the velocity of light?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

299,792,458 meters per second. (Confirmation?)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Light travels at a constant, finite speed of 186,000 mi/sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The velocity of light is not constant.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@henpen is some sort of relativist or something... ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not relativity the speed of light is constant through a vacuum it decreases as it travels through a medium( like air or water), henpen is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@razakhan78 Usually you talk about "velocity of light through some medium" (for example, empty space or water or atmosphere

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know @henpen is right... just a [bad] joke :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually, I was being a little facetious:|dw:1348258414479:dw| And anyway, in water it does actually travel at the speed of light, it just doesn't go in straight lines.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, light travels at the speed of light... that's a truism. It all depends on what this question is trying to accomplish... doubt it's a physics question... sounds more like early science

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also, think we lost the original question asker... oh well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was just playing on the word 'velocity'. General relativity makes things confusing.|dw:1348258676696:dw|
