If x=2y+2, how much greater is 6x than 12y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply both sides by 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6x = 12 y + 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is above.. If you can see it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it 12? Still a bit confused @Freyes

Directrix (directrix):

Freyes took x=2y+2 and multiplied both sides by 2. That is because multiplying by 2 gives expressions for 6x and 12y which you are asked to compare. So 6x = 12y +12 by the multiplicatin property of equality. @william0123 --> Do you follow that so far?

Directrix (directrix):

Yes or no? Don't be shy. I can re-explain Freyes' work. We still have another step. @william0123

Directrix (directrix):

how much greater is 6x than 12y? --------------------------- Look at this: 6x = 12y +12 What is added to 12y to equal 6x? That is the key to knowing how much greater 6x is that 12y.
