x/2=5/15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ x }{ 2 } = \frac{ 5 }{ 15 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can simplify the right side of the equation to get 1/3 because the factors of 5 are 1,5 and the factors of 15 are 1,3,5,15. So you can divide both of them by 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ x }{ 2 } = \frac{ 1 }{ 3 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To get rid of the denominator on the left you can multiply both sides by 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ x }{ 2 } \times 2 = \frac{ 1 }{ 3 } \times 2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x = \frac{ 2 }{ 3 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's how you solve an equation, basically you get the variable isolated on 1 side and the other side of the equation is what that variable (in this case x) equals to.
