A speed of 75 mi/h is equal to a speed of 110 ft/s. To the nearest mile per hour, what is the speed of an aircraft traveling at a speed of 1600 ft/s? Please show work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

75mi/h=110ft/s |dw:1348412906462:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isnt 75 mi equal to 110 ft/s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mi is a unit of distance mi/h is unit of speed the are 2 different things ft is a unit of distance ft/s is a unit of speed you can not relate distance to speed you can relate speed to speed or distance to distance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

75mi/h=110ft/s (75mi/h)/(110ft/s)=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 75 mi/h and 110 ft/s are speed... They are all speed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1348413279603:dw| basically divide by 110, then multiply by 75 the ft/s units cancel out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

leaving you mi/h unit

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You cant multiply yet because they arent all in the same unit.. One is in mi while the other is ft?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you divide out the ft/s if you multiplied ft/s to mi/h the unit you will get is ft*mi/s*h which is why you then divide by ft/s to get rid of the ft/s unit

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if i divided, 1600 ft/s by 110 ft/s, what kind of units will i get? @faraz1998

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14.5 ft/s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the number is correct, but the unit is not the units get cancelled out kind of like x/x=1, 2/2=1, in this case, (ft/s)/(ft/s)=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So all together thats the answer?
