How would I solve this problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[3x+4 \over x-2\] = 1/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are given this expression?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, that is the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what have u done so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's the thing, im completely stumped..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the 1/3 hurting you? would you know how to solve if it was =1 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just that fractions are pretty much my weakness..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i honestly cant figure where to start.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x+4/(x-2)=1/3 multiply by x-2 you will get 3x+4=(x-2)/3 **remember its 1/3* (x-2) you can group terms 9x+12=x-2 make the #s=Xs 14=-8x 14/-8=x u can reduce to -7/4 **you can check by plugging the -7/4 into the expression

you can also check your answer in wolfram alpha check this out: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=%283x%2B4%29%2F%28x%E2%88%922%29%3D%281%2F3%29
