6x-2x+8=x+5 How would I solve this? Please include steps so I could learn how to do it on my own. Thank you!

OpenStudy (aripotta):

combine like terms and solve for x

OpenStudy (aripotta):

6x and 2x are like terms

For every algebra problem where we are solving for just one variable. Start thinking about how we can get the variable x by itself on one side of the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like ari said, we can do this by simplifying the expression by adding or subtracting the like terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now when you do something to one side of the equation you must do it to the other. For instance, if I subtract 5 from the right side of the equation to make that positive 5 go away I also have to subtract 5 from the left side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This makes the equation looks different but since you did the same thing to both sides essentially nothing changes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you need to see the actual steps?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes please :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure how I'm supposed to get all the x terms on one side.
