For this problem, assume that Pr[A ∪B] = 0.3 and Pr[A] = 0.2. (1) What is Pr[B] if A and B are independent events?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well if the union of the two is .3 and they are independent events than the union is just pr(A) + pr(B)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.5 is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.1.... .3-.2 is = to .1...not .5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the answer for the disjoint one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we need to find the independent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

them being independent means they don't depend on each other. disjoint and independent are the same thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i have a thing for my homework you type in the answer and it tells you if its right or wrong .1 is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they dont' depend on each other alright well. then forget it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you don't know how to do it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

apparently not. wait for someone else to reply or post in statistics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is no stats

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes there is, i'm on it..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its just called stats? i can't find it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. statistics. i say stats for short. basically for independent events. you would need to know the intersection of the events to find out B or vice versa
