Help me and I'll Love you for life<3 One of Today's hot Political topics is some states' measures to restrict voting. What historical precedents do we have for such efforts, in the South and elsewhere? Why were/are some people concerned about this?
i don't remember any specific precedents, but they all are based on the statement that "all men are created equal." this was eventually made to include african americans and expanded to define "men" as all humanity, not just men (meaning women too). One concern was that women and african americans were not as educated as white men in the past, and were not viewed as able to make a knowledgable vote.
@itsmichi95 I can't cite detailed restricted voting anecdotes but you can research them. Over the years, minority groups have not been allowed to vote (reference to southern U.S), women could not vote, prisoners who had been released from jail were disenfranchised, Native Americans were denied the right to vote, and people in US territories, e.g., Puerto Rico are not allowed to vote. This is a great topic to research. Please don't consider my examples as the "gospel truth." I just wanted to give some examples of places to begin researching.
