Fa-Thud! As Sterling falls rigidly to the ground, people gather around him from every direction. Sweat is streaming from his face and he is gasping for air. He has just had a heart attack. Sterling never expected that his unhealthy tendencies would lead to this moment. According to the Center for Disease Control, in 2006 more than 600,000 American people died from a heart-related illness. Today it remains the leading cause of death among both men and women in the US. Studies show that the percentage of deaths from a heart-related illness among people who exercise regularly is drastically lower than in those who do not. In fact, regular exercise has a multitude of positive effects, among them being decreased risk of certain health complications, increased energy levels and boosted self-confidence. Exercise, among other things, is a major contributing factor to a healthy blood pressure. The more someone exerts themselves physically, the stronger their heart becomes. As the heart strengthens, it takes less effort to pump blood throughout the arteries. Without the added pressure on the arterial walls, they become smooth, allowing more blood to flow freely through. When there is an excess amount of pressure on the walls, calcium and fat begin to accumulate. This accumulation causes the arteries to harden, otherwise known as atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis will eventually lead to the narrowing of the arterial walls, which will lead to complications such as heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, or even death. The healthier the blood pressure, the lower the risk of developing these conditions. Besides the improvement upon blood pressure, exercise also helps to cut out any excess weight. When a person is overweight, there is a greater chance of contracting life-threatening illnesses such as diabetes or gallbladder disease. It has been speculated upon that the extra fat, especially around the waist and belly, in someone who is overweight has an adverse effect on the way that cells react to certain processes, like the creation of insulin or the regulation of cholesterol. Without this excess weight, the risk of developing these issues is much lower. Without having to worry about suffering an untimely death due to the aforementioned problems, there will be more time to focus on daily life. In order to sustain a healthy and enjoyable lifestyle, the human body requires daily cardiovascular activity. Energy is needed to rise out of bed to get to a job, to go to the grocery store and even to have a social life. Those who lack energy often suffer from poor health and/or depression. Regular exercise is a great way to combat the absence of energy. Exercising helps with attaining more energy by increasing muscle mass and improving the heart’s pumping strength. If a person with no energy throughout the day were to exercise for only 30 minutes per day, he or she would notice a significant improvement in their energy levels and would find that completing their daily tasks is a lot less difficult. Additionally, there is certainly a link between elevated self-confidence and elevated feelings of happiness. Self-confidence is an incredibly important aspect of life. It governs how one views themselves and how they present themselves to others. Lacking the confidence needed for contentment with one’s life can have a detrimental effect on his or her well-being. It can lead to poor self-image, some social disorders, or depression. Exercise is one of the best routes to increase self-confidence. It causes endorphins that are directly linked with an excellent mood to be released into the brain. This stimulates the desire to exercise routinely, which in turn results in a healthy weight. Those with a healthy weight are generally thought to be more confident than those who are overweight due to what is socially acceptable about body image. There are people all over the world who could benefit from having the knowledge of how regular exercise positively affects the quality of life. It would reduce the amount of deaths from high blood pressure or heart disease, increase productivity and allow everyone their much needed happiness. Sterling certainly learned this. Immediately following his heart attack, he was put under the supervision of a hospital for several days. As a result, he now runs on a track for half an hour every day before anything else is done. He is much more content and stress-free. He vows that he will do continue to do this for the rest of his days. His life depends on it.

well this is all i could scrape up with ... We too should learn from Mr. Sterling! It is important that we take time out of each day to exercise. Even if we only have time for a few minutes… it is worth it. Proper exercise can prevent one from having a heart attack. Besides that, other benefits of exercise include: better blood circulation, a stronger appetite, food is digested well, you will feel better about yourself, and you will also be fit and be able to participate in sports and daily activities a lot better. So take heed and start exercising now. It would be a shame if what it takes to get you started is for you to have to go through a heart attack. ------------------------------------------------ If I helped please click "Best Response"

Thank you so much for your answer, but we're not allowed to use first person in this one. Only third. What I'm really looking for is a way to just expand upon my points. Or if there is a way to restructure my thesis in order to allow for more information to be inserted into the paper at all. I'm not sure at all. Writing academic papers has never been my strong point. I procrastinated this one and it's due in two days, :( I'm terrible.

Perhaps add an addition an effect of exercise to your thesis; by doing that you can add a paragraph. what about something from here: http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/bb/neuro/neuro05/web2/mmcgovern.html

Thanks so much for the link, it's actually very helpful. I can only write a 3 point thesis statement, but perhaps I can find a way to incorporate a few of the paragraphs I have into one point and creating another. Thanks again!

You can take brain stuff and add it to either physical or change your self confidence paragraph to changes that occur cognitively?
