Which conditional has the same truth vaule as its converse? if x = 7, then IxI = 7 if a figure is a square, then it has four sides if x - 17 = 4, then x = 21 if an angle has a meausre of 80 degrees then it is acute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what the definition of converse is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Converse means the "if" and "then" parts of a sentence are switched. For example, "If two numbers are both even, then their sum is even" is a true statement. The converse would be "If the sum of two numbers is even, then the numbers are even," which is not a true statement.

im still confusedd.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right. So, rewrite all of those statements as their converse: If |x| = 7, then x = 7 If a figure has 4 sides, then it is a square If x = 21, then x - 17 = 4 If an angle is acute, its measure is 80 degrees. Which of those is true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its be the second one/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A rectangle has 4 sides. So, that's not quite right. Another way to approach it is to try and think of a counterexample for each of the statements, then see which one you have left that doesn't have a counterexample.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so then it would be the third one becuase they are different.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's correct, but I'm not sure I understand your reasoning.
