Rewrite the following statement as a conditional statment: Apples grow on trees. if it grows on a treem it is an apple if a fri=uite is an apple, then it grows ona tree apples are a fruit if and only they grow on a tree if it is not a fruit, it is not an apple i believe it is the first one! hellpp?

Directrix (directrix):

This question is going to sound silly but it is not meant to be silly. When you read "Apples grow on trees," in your mind which comes first in the statement: the apple or the tree? Is it an apple you will say something about in the given statement or is it the tree?

Directrix (directrix):

@brittc Be brave and take a guess. You can always delete it. Plus, I cannot give you the answer without some sort of input from you. Or, I'll be banned from the site. So, please work with me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it did guess it i think it is the first one because it sounds like ur normal everyday thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then pears, oranges, lemons, and such are also apples ;)

Directrix (directrix):

@brittc If you have an apple, then it _____?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then it what grows on a tree?

Directrix (directrix):

Yes. If a fruit is an apple, then it grows on a tree means the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is the second one

Directrix (directrix):

Let's try this, please. A right angle has a measure of 90 degrees. So, how would you write that statement as a conditional statement? (I'll answer your question in a second.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg you are confusing me!

Directrix (directrix):

It is the same idea as the apple problem. This time, instead of apple, it's angle. This time, instead of tree, it's 90 degrees. Give it a shot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all i want to do is answer this question not the question your asking me if the second one is not the answer then say no so i can try again

OpenStudy (aripotta):

so snippy. he was just trying to help you understand the concept

Directrix (directrix):

I understand that and I can sense your frustration. But, I am trying to empower you so that you will be able to do all sorts of conditionals, not just ones about apples. Yes, I will tell you about the apple problem if you will just tell me what you think the angle conditional is. I promise.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay well what your askig ng i have no idea

Directrix (directrix):

A right angle has a measure of 90 degrees. ----- Does the statement mean If you have a right angle, then something OR Does the statement mean If you have 90 degrees, then something is true? This is the last time I'll ask you to guess. Once you do and I tell you if your answer is correct, I'll tell you if the apple answer is correct.

OpenStudy (aripotta):

@brittc you should at least try to guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just a 90 degree angle

Directrix (directrix):

@brittc As promised, here is the answer to your question: If a fruit is an apple, then it grows on a tree. (second one) ****** Likewise, for the right angle question, it would be" If an angle is right, then it has a measure of 90 degrees.

OpenStudy (aripotta):

do you understand why it's the second one though?
