A dime is 1.25 mm thick. How many meters high would a stack of dimes worth $50 be? A. 0.00625 m B. 6.25 m C. 625 m D. 0.625 m

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Ok some conversions to do first so lets change millimeters into meters, and $'s into dimes :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6.25?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\[1.25mm=.00125m\]\[$50=500dimes\]\[500(.00125m)=0.625m\] Hmm, miss a zero on the meter conversion? :o maybe I did. I'll double check c:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its D?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Mmmmmm yah i think so :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thankkkkkk youuuuu sooo muchh! ive been on that prob forever!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me see if i get it correct. im homeschooled so i get to retake everything

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Complete the statement. 469.1 mg = ? g A. 0.4691 B. 46,910 C. 469,100 D. 46.91 do you know this one?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

hmm so a conversion similar to the last one. Milligrams to grams, the milli prefix lets you know it is 1 thousandth of the base unit. \[10^{-3}mg=1g\] If that is confusing, just think of moving the decimal place 3 places. Since you're converting from a small unit to a larger unit, you move the decimal to the left. So what would that be? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

46,910? or i think maybe 0.4691

zepdrix (zepdrix):

|dw:1348644274416:dw| yah your second guess sounds correct :)
