Geometry. Regular polygon. Find the value of x. 3x+32 and 13x+27 its a nine sided figure. Please Help

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

what does 3x + 32 and 13x + 27 represent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1348691180843:dw|the sides. it shows a nonagon and on one side it says 3x+32 and on another side it says 13x+27

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

if its a regular nonagon then all sides are equal so 13x + 27 = 3x+ 32 10x = 32-27 = 5

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

you don't need to use the fact its a nonagon - it would be true for any regular polygon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks. How do you know weather to add or subtract when you set them equal to each other

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

ok the usual way to do this is 13x + 27 = 3x + 32 aim to bring terms in x to left and numbers to right of '=' subtract 27 from both sides 13x = 3x + 32 - 17 subtract 3x from both sides 13x - 3x = 32 - 27 10x = 5 divide both sides by 10: x = 0.5
