How to find the Domain of 2+5/x^2+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that just \[\frac{ 5 }{x ^{2} }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no theres a +2 under there as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The thing thats confusing me is the 2 in the beginning...not sure what to do when thats there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay well this is not as complicated as it seems. Assuming that this is function, the domain means all possible values of x. The only time this function does not solve is when you try to divide by 0. So in the fraction, the denominator cannot be 0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

basically, solve for what values of x make x^2+2 make 0 and the domain is all values BUT those values of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the 2 in front doesn't matter when finding the domain for this function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i would have to factor that and find the zeros

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes in this case, x^2 +2 can never equal 0 so the domain is all real numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be (-∞,∞)?
