Can someone explain to me how you find the number of significant figures are in a term?

The rule is that all non-zero numbers are significant numbers
All zeros in between non-zero numbers are significant
All zeros to the right of a decimal point are significant
Zeros to the left of a decimal point are only significant if they are preceded by non-zeros numbers
If you have a number with zeros to the right of non-zero numbers with no decimal point (like 4120), the 0 zero can be significant or non-significant

usually in those cases, you put a decimal place after 4120=4120.
or you put it in scientific notation like this 4120=4.120*10^3
