The average weekly count of children serviced in your day care is 48. During the hours of operation 40% of this total need space at any given time. 35 square feet is required per child. Square footage for present demand is____ square feet. You wish to be able to handle 5 additional children on an emergency basis without a violation, what additional square footage is required? Square footage for 5 children is____ square feet.
fun fun...
It's not so bad... just a bunch of steps. Step 1: During hours of operation, 40% of the total 48 need space. What is 40% of 48?
Im thinking 48x0.40=19.20
Looks great so far :)
step 2: each child needs 35 square feet. You determined in step 1 that you have to provide space for 40% of 48 or 19.20 children. So 19.20 children multiplied by 35 square feet per child is _______ ?
672
19.20x35=672
Good stuff... that's it for the first part. Part 2 is basically the same, but easier... if you need 35 square feet per child, how much space do you need for 5 extra kids?
672 sq ft for the first one right
right :)
35x5=175
right... don't forget the units :)
do you turn these in on paper, or submit them online?
ok
they already writen i just have to put the number
yeah, I didn't notice that before... I just didn't want you to forget.... I have heard of people who get the right number but leave off the units and get marked wrong... I also heard of someone who forgot the comma, putting in something like 6000, and got it marked wrong even though the number was right (but the problem DID say to include the comma).
Good work overall... are you feeling better about how to work these problems?
wait it saying something not right
on part 1 or 2, or can you tell?
part 1 they got 700
part 2 is right
ok, arrgggh... sorry about that. What they wanted you to do was to find 40% of 48 kids, which you did correctly and got 19.2. But what neither of us did was to say, "Hey, wait, I can't have a 0.2 of a kid, so I need to round up to a whole number of kids, like 20". And then you multiply 20 x 35 to get 700 sq ft.
I thought, incorrectly it seems, that since the number 48 was just an average, and that 40% was an estimate of the number of kids, that it would be fine to leave it as 19.20. The problem wasn't clear that way... but rounding up to 20 was apparently what they wanted you to do.
i took 19.20x35=672
yes, me too. You were supposed to round 19.20 up to 20, then do 20 x 35 = 700
i see now
a0 - 974.0 a0 - 974 a0 - 973.0 a0 - 973 a1 - 3,000.0 a1 - 3,000 a4 - $8,831.11 a4 - $8,828.89 those are answers for number 8 the one we did it before this one im gonna ask my teacher why its little not right. its looks right to me
weird because we got those answers stupid computer when it checks
huh? are these all your choices? Or are some your answers and some the correct answers?
for k-1 learning center we got 973, 3,000,8,828.89
Im gonna call school on monday and ask them to give me my credit back because all my answers are right :)
yes... the first two are rounded to the nearest sq ft, just like the problem asked for. And the price for the third part should be fine too. That is weird :( School is enough of a challenge without having the system say you're wrong when you aren't.
i know but that's ok thank you so much for helping me. They can fix it on monday :)
I'm glad to help :) Good luck with it Monday :)
Thank you you come here a lot
Hopefully it's helpful for people who need it, plus I find that trying to help explain things is good practice... explaining often helps me get an even better understanding than I had before. Anyway :) as I said, glad to help...
ok talk to you soon ill hit you up if i need more help. do i just send message if i need help or what
it's hard to work problems in the messages, but you can message me and then post the problem. You can tell if I'm online or not too... but if I am not online, just post your question anyway... there are a bunch of good people here.
ok thank you. bye.
bye :)
