hi i am having trouble to simplify expression10(-2+p)-3(1+3p) please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Have you placed all of your parenthesis correctly? You should have to only distribute and then combine like terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is how it is on my review and I came up with a different answer then what the teacher gave me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What did your teacher give and what do you have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-23+p, I got -17+19p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay you need to first distribute 10(-2+p)-3(1+3p) would be -20 + 10p - 3 - 9p. Then you need to combine like terms -20 and -3 would be -23 then 10p and -9p would be just p and that would be -23 + p. Did that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get -20+10p-3-9p when i did it I got -20+10p-3+9p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you don't count it as subtracting 3 you count it as a -3 and -3 x 3 is -9.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if that is true then you should be getting -3-9p in the second part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is right but you don't put - -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh ok got it thank so very much!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay okay i have to go now good job :)
