Is it possible for AB = 10, BC = 2x + 5 and AC = 5x, given that point B is the midpoint?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if B is the midpoint, then the expression for AC's length must be equal to the one for BC's length. Set these two expressions equal and see if you can solve for an x value. If so, then yes, it's possible. If not, then it is not possible.

Which of the following is NOT an undefined term of Geometry? (3 points) point line segment plane

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it s not possible.. AB s 10 and on solving u get BC 15.. so b cannot be the midpoint

I messed up the way I wrote that post a minute ago. AC is the whole length. So set the expression for BC equal to the expression for AB (and AB just = 10) 10 = 2x + 5 Then if that x also satisfies the expression for AC, making AC = twice AB = twice BC, then yes, it is possible

I labeled my points incorrectly... sorry!

|dw:1349194616153:dw| 10+2x+5 = 5x 15 = 3x x = 5
