What is the slope of the line shon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (ajprincess):

To find the slope m between two points \((x_1,y_1)\) and \((x_2,y_2)\) the following formula is used. \[m=\frac{ y_2-y_1 }{ x_2-x_1 }\]. The points given to u are (-7,-3) and (1,-4). That is \((x_1,y_1)\)=(-7,-3) \((x_2,y_2)\)=(1,-4) Can u find the slope nw @lexiamee?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is -8 correct?

OpenStudy (ajprincess):

Hmm no. Can u plz tell me how u did it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lexiamee this explanation is the same as @malutella gave you in http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/506b1949e4b0e78f215dd34f

Work through your process with @ajprincess (don't just guess an answer) and she can help you understand what you are missing :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly so -1/8 rise over run

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I did -8/1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You go up 1 , 8 to the left doing it just by looking at the graph or u could solve it algebraically ---> -4+3/ 1+7 = -1/8
